Painter Joy Bertinuson paints large, colorful canvases—many of them up to 6-feet square—of domestic scenes. Recently, though, she’s taken up pyrography, or wood burning. Her significantly smaller panels (most don’t exceed 16 inches in dimension) are loaded with plenty of puns and double entendres. She’s shows her work as part of Axis Gallery’s Sacramento Cross Section group show, also featuring David Lane, Gioia Fonda, Ianna Frisby and Liv Moe. The exhibition is up through December 21, with a preview party on Thursday, December 11, and a Second Saturday reception on December 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.
