Murder at the Harvest

It’s wine-grape harvest season in Sacramento. And you know what goes perfect with harvesting grapes? Murder. Tasty, tasty murder. The historic Frasinetti Winery in south Sac—the city’s oldest family-owned winery—hosts a murder-mystery dinner that will be delightful in the cooling weather. The night starts out with a mixer—where you get to the meet the suspects—then continues with a buffet dinner. And then murder. Bring a date and you can both figure out whodunnit. And hey, if your date turns out to be a turd, you can stab him or her in the heart with your salad fork. Everyone will think it’s just part of the show.

Friday, October 1 6:30 p.m.; $40. Frasinetti’s Winery & Restaurant, 7395 Frasinetti Road; (916) 383-2444; www.frasinetti.com.

Thursday Night Jazz & Wine

Mike Oliver and Jerry Hill were two college roommates who went on to their own successful, divergent careers. Years later, the two reunited and discovered they had developed a mutual winemaking hobby. So the pair teamed up. Oliver grows the grapes, Hill makes the wine. Together, the award-winning Oliver Hill Wines produces less than 500 cases a year, and they’ll bring their cabs and pinots to Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa for a night of storytelling, sampling and smooth jazz. Who knows? Their story might even inspire you to pursue your own winemaking adventure.

Thursday, October 14 6 p.m.; $20. Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa, 1220 Arden Hills Lane; (916) 482-6111; www.ardenhills.net.
