Where the Wild Things are

What if all the wolves, bears and mountain lions that have been killed to preventatively protect livestock didn’t need to be slashed at all? The Natural Resources Defense Council says the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services branch spends $100 million of taxpayers’ money to eliminate more than 1 million animals annually. But the film Wild Things—no, not the tawdry ’90s flick—suggests a way for ranchers’ herds to cohabit with predators. Catch a free reception and screening of the documentary on Tuesday, June 25, at the Crest Theatre (1013 K Street) at 6 p.m. (film begins at 7 p.m.), plus a panel discussion with a wildlife specialist, advocates and a rancher.
