Sactown deserves gold stars for its green buildings. Earlier this month, the Environmental Protection Agency released its annual list of cities with the most Energy Star-labeled buildings. For the first time ever, Sacramento cracked the top 10, ranking No. 8 with 168 total Energy Star buildings. Sacramento made a significant jump each of the last two years—from 21st place in 2008 to 16th place in 2009, adding more than 100 Energy Star-certified buildings in the last year alone. But Sacramento is still far behind list leaders Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Those cities have 510 and 301 Energy Star-labeled buildings, respectively.
