Urban produce

Alchemist Community Development Corporation was awarded a 30-month grant to expand its Urban Farm Stands to new locations in Sacramento County, in partnership with the Sacramento Mutual Housing Association. Alchemist plans on extending to four new locations, while continuing its current one at Alkali Flats, which had its inaugural season this summer.

“In low-income neighborhoods where access to fresh produce is limited or not even an option, [a farm stand] brings this food to them,” said Lisa Nelson, co-founder of Alchemist.

The grant will also help Alchemist assemble a handbook to help other communities start stands. For more information, contact Nelson at lnelson@alchemistcdc.org.
