Tues, July 7, Reverend Beat-Man

Blue Lamp, 9 p.m., $8

Reverend Beat-Man is such a weirdo. But you know what? That’s OK, because we’re all weirdoes in different ways. The bug-eyed, tatted, irreverent Reverend’s way includes screeching like a cat sometimes or instructing by song how to do the “Jesus Christ Twist” (“Nail your partner to a cross / dance around and have some fun”). The Beat-Man may don a collar, but his deep, gravelly voice sounds more like it’s from a place of brimstone than a pulpit. But overall, his brand of dark, bluesy rockabilly is strangely enthralling. Just like a good preacher’s sermon should be. Thank you, Reverend, for keeping it weird. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.myspace.com/reverendbeatman.
