You open your eyes from the passenger seat on a cross-country road trip, and for a split second, the landscape still looks blurred before your vision wakes up with you. Micah Crandall-Bear has captured that soft-focus moment in paint in his new series, New Horizons. Though his pieces are recognizable as landscapes, they are abstracted, and some have bold ribbons of sunset orange or pink blazing across the canvas, while others have a mottled, graded sky with a gentle vignette, and going from one painting to the next is like taking a drowsy trip toward dreamland.
