A decade ago, Entertainment Weekly labeled Paul Oakenfold “the Wal-Mart of DJs.” But that theory doesn’t prevail among hardcore electronica fans. These days, Oakenfold sticks to remix albums and touring with stars like Madonna (who enlisted the British DJ for her 2008 Sticky & Sweet tour). However, Oakenfold’s résumé actually spans several decades. He co-produced 1990’s Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, the third LP from immortal dance rockers Happy Mondays. Oakenfold cemented his legacy with mixing and production work for Madonna, the Cure, and Wendy & Lisa, among others.
