It’s easy to assume, because it’s August, that local art galleries are closed. Many are, but Solomon Dubnick remains open and has a pretty nice show up to view. Less Traveled: Seven Scenic Viewpoints features works by seven artists—Jessica Dunne, Chris Newhard, Terry Pappas, David Post, Leslie Toms, Jian Wang and Larry Welden. The common denominator is a preference for outdoor scenes: Newhard goes for trees, typically oaks; Pappas fixates on the American River Parkway; Toms depicts the Mediterranean countryside and its California analogue; Post goes strictly Mediterranean; Welden prefers vistas of the Nile; Dunne likes urban scapes; Wang covers the spectrum from the American River Parkway to such National Parks as Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. The show runs through August 31; the gallery is located at 2131 Northrop Ave., just west of Howe; it’s open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
