Dear Sacramento,

For years, my elves and I have been all about the global economy— outsource, import, free the market. Problem is, we were so busy thinking globally that we totally forgot to act locally. And now we’re paying the price.

But there’s hope this holiday season: We’re bringing gift-giving back home. What does that mean, exactly? Well, for starters, my elves and I are only delivering presents from locally owned businesses. And we want every Sacramentan to join the effort.

All right, don’t fret: It won’t be that hard, I promise. In fact, I’ve personally enlisted the elfin scribes at SN&R to instruct us on how to shop locally for clothes and fashion, music, art, entertainment, do-it-yourself goods and all kinds of goodies. And, as it turns out, staying away from the corporate malls and big-box stores and filling my shop-local sleigh with presents from independent Sacto shops is astonishingly simple! So easy, in fact, that SN&R and I have prepared this Holiday Shopper guide to spread the good cheer.

Buy local! Give Sacramento!

OK, now back to scouting regional coal mines.

Nice not naughty,

Sactown Santa
