Take a bow, Pow!
Sacramento, CA 95814
Monday night at The Press Club became an ol’ reliable during its nearly five-year reign as the thing to do to kick off the week in Midtown, if you were into live indie rock. It became the Monday Night Football for chain-smoking bike-messenger dudes and pale-faced waifish girls. Anyway, Ira Skinner, who ran the sound at the night’s Club Pow! and booked most of the acts, kept the pulse of a scene bumping for years—which is admirable, because anyone knows how fickle as fuck this scene can be. Unfortunately, all good things, of course, come to an end. But Skinner is going out with a … pow: Shaun Slaughter will deejay, the New Humans will humanize the moment and everyone else will imbibe those infamous $2 tall cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon—which for a while there became the water of choice for a certain Midtown contingent.
