State workers’ enviro-friendly digs

As part of the Green Building Order to reduce energy usage 20 percent by 2015, newly constructed and renovated state-owned buildings larger than 10,000 square feet must be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified. LEED standards, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, establish criteria for energy efficiency and environmental performance on a rating scale of bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Current state buildings larger than 50,000 square feet also will be subject to meet LEED Existing Building certifications. Visit www.usgbc.org for more information.
