Spy Game

Rated 4.0 Robert Redford and Brad Pitt pair up for this smart thriller about a former CIA agent imprisoned in China and his former trainer trying to orchestrate his release back to the U.S. Pitt is great as Bishop, a man with enough nerve to be a spy, but perhaps just not cold enough in the heart. Redford is equally good as his former mentor, a day away from retirement and trying to save his friend’s life. Much of the film is told in flashback, taking the story to Vietnam, Beirut and West Berlin. It’s a weighty movie, and it is a bit slow in parts, but the overall experience is an intelligent film featuring two star performances. It’s good to see these guys in a movie together.
