Sex Tape

Rated 3.0

A suburban couple (Jason Segel, Cameron Diaz) tries spicing up their love life by recording themselves in the act, but instead of erasing it afterward, they accidentally upload it to the cloud, which then distributes the video to several iPads—including that of the straight-arrow CEO (Rob Lowe) who's about to hire the wife. Written by Segel, Nicholas Stoller and Kate Angelo and directed by Jake Kasdan, this risqué comedy is raunchy on the surface but surprisingly sweet at the center. It sags badly in the middle, but is pretty funny on both ends. It leaves us laughing, so we forgive the 20 minutes or so that tried our patience. The movie's cleverest joke passes almost unnoticed: the casting of Lowe, who had a sex-tape problem of his own back in 1988. Also cast are Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper and Jack Black in an unbilled cameo as a porn-site operator.
