A former PG&E building will reboot as a science center for children. Located on the banks of the Sacramento River, the building is to become a center for hands-on learning for young children. Educational activities will include science, math, technology, engineering and space topics. The building will also feature green components and serve as a laboratory for environmental education. The $50 million building, to be called the Powerhouse Science Center, is scheduled to open in 2013. First 5 Sacramento also contributed a $250,000 grant to help with the goal of helping children prepare to enter kindergarten. For more info, visit www.powerhousesciencecenter.org.
