Sat., Sept. 14, Musical Awakening of Indian Jazz

Harris Center for the Arts, 7 p.m., $20-$25

While jazz is often considered an American musical form, it has also borrowed heavily from the rhythms of other cultures. So, a melding of American jazz and North Indian sounds should not be a surprise. Pandit Binay Pathak is a composer, harmonium player and singer known for his ghazals, and he will be joined by dayereh percussionist Abbos Kosimov; George Brooks (pictured), saxophonist, composer and co-founder of Bombay Jazz and other Indian fusion groups; and Matthew Montfort, scalloped fretboard guitarist, recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. 10 College Drive in Folsom, www.sahana.org.
