Puff, Puff, Pass

Sony

By now, expectations for a dumb stoner comedy have reached record lows—we know that the gags all will revolve around drugs, farts, obese women, more farts and poop. That’s all fine and dandy, but the execrable straight-to-video release Puff, Puff, Pass (directed and produced by Mekhi Phifer, who also co-stars) manages to tunnel under even those subterranean standards. The plot is essentially a cheap knockoff of the genre’s high mark, Half-Baked, minus two crucial elements: (1) the laugh-out-loud humor of Dave Chappelle, and (2) anything even remotely humorous at all. Danny Masterson of That ’70s Show stars as a down-on-his-luck druggie booted out of rehab; in case you can’t place him from the Fox sitcom, he’s the one with zero prospects for a successful post-show career.
