Project for the New American Century

It is sometimes said that if you want to hide something, the best place is in plain sight. This ominously titled Web site begins with a “Statement of Principles,” dated June 3, 1997, which spells out the need for a bold “conservative” vision of Pax Americana that looks remarkably similar to the imperialist agenda of ancient Rome. It is signed by a number of people active in the current regime in Washington, D.C.—Dick Cheney, Elliott Abrams, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz—along with figures familiar to any hard-news junkie: Jeb Bush, Dan Quayle, Donald Kagan, William Bennett, Steve Forbes, Eliot A. Cohen, Gary Bauer, Norman Podhoretz and even Zalmay Khalilzad, the former Unocal aid who became a State Department envoy to Afghanistan. The site is loaded with HTML and PDF documents that make for excellent reading for anyone wondering from what cave the Bush doctrine emerged. Tinfoil hat: optional.
