Paper art is more than just origami. Because the medium is an ordinary, everyday item, that is not enough reason to underestimate the possibility of extraordinary art, the kind that really pops—like from a book. Children’s book author David A. Carter has published a series of pop-up books called The Red Dot Series that are interactive and rug-rat friendly, of course, but visually intriguing enough for adults to deem cool, too. His creative engineering offers a new surprise at the turn of each page. The Blue Line Gallery is displaying Carter’s books and paper sculptures in The Art of the Pop-Up Book, and because the work is interactive, this is one art exhibit where touching some of the artwork isn’t strictly forbidden.
