Joan Moment has a thing about circles. In the pieces on display at Constellation Paintings 2002-2004, a show by Moment up this month at JayJay, 5520 Elvas Avenue in East Sacramento, she bunches them together like molecular structures on fields of deep translucent blue, like dream-world midnight skies or deep ocean scenes, or on backgrounds of intense Deutsche Grammophon yellow. Moment seems to like to adhere to a defined spectrum in her exhibitions: A few years ago, her JayJay show was all blacks and reds on white fields; this time, she opted for the blue/purple-and-orange/yellow axis. It’s easy to stand before one of her large canvases and feel your own circle binding to one of her molecular constructs. Try it. The show is officially up until Saturday, October 23, but its run has been extended through November 5 by appointment. The gallery’s phone number is (916) 453-2999.
