Neither gal nor grrrl

San Francisco songwriter Noe Venable is just one of the gurls.

It’s Women’s History Month—time for all enlightened feminists to rent a documentary on Eleanor Roosevelt, buy tickets for The Vagina Monologues and write a poem about patriarchal oppression!

You can stop yawning now. I understand. It’s not that you don’t recognize the importance of the above activities. It’s just that, well, you did them last year. And the year before. You’d like a new way to celebrate women. Something irreverent and saucy. Something with a little kick. Something like the Davis All Gurl Revue!

You won’t find a better lineup anywhere this side of Hollywood. The show includes fire dancers; a veil dance; poetry by The Weird Sisters and Straight Out Scribes; music by The Gynas, Elena Powell and Noe Venable; burlesque dancing by Cherry Malone; a fashion show; a drag king Sinatra jazz ensemble and much more. The whole thing winds up with a late-night DJ dance party! Be inside the Veterans Memorial Theater, 203 E. 14th Street in Davis, by 8 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $15. All proceeds benefit the Women’s Wisdom Project, so you can still feel like you’re doing your part to fight society’s phallocentric bias. Call (530) 758-8058 for info.
