Love will find a way

Despite their electric moniker, Tesla will perform this week’s shows unplugged.

Back in 2002, when SN&R still hosted the Summer Sammies concerts in the park, Frank Hannon headlined one of our shows. Best known as the lead guitarist for Tesla, Hannon played a powerful solo set of intricate instrumental numbers. Only once did he give a nod to Tesla, breaking into an instrumental version of “Love Song.” The crowd, which was pressed 10 deep against the stage, sang every lyric Hannon never uttered. “Love will find a way!” crowed the women in the front row, with tears in their eyes. It was a display of emotion unprecedented at Cesar Chavez Plaza, and it made one thing clear: Sacramento is still in love with Tesla. Luckily, the boys in Tesla have never forgotten their hometown. They’ll prove it this weekend with two all-acoustic shows at the Crest Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday night. Tickets are $26.50. The Crest is located at 1013 K Street, and the band is located at www.teslatheband.com.
