During her comedy film Notorious C.H.O., Margaret Cho joked, “We need to recognize that a government that would deny a gay man the right to a bridal registry is a fascist regime.” Like much of Cho’s humor, this statement inspires laughter while underscoring a bitter truth. In this case, it’s the fact that gay and lesbian couples in America are still denied the right to legal civil marriage. Celebrate Valentine’s Day by affirming the right of all people to love and marry as their hearts decree at a marriage-equality rally at the state Capitol. Cho will join the Rev. Troy Perry, founder of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, in speaking at the rally. Meet on the Capitol’s west steps between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
