loudQUIETloud: A Film About the Pixies

See it at the Shiny Object Film Series, Friday at 7 p.m. $5. Fools Foundation, 1025 19th Street.

In 2004, when the Pixies regrouped for their first tour in 12 years, it seemed too good to be true. And it was, as tickets were hard to come by. So the next best thing should be a documentary of the tour, right? Wrong. LoudQUIETloud is just boring enough to be hard to sit through, but not egregious enough to walk away from. There is a little insight into the Pixies dynamic. As Kelley Deal says early on to her sister, Pixies bassist Kim Deal, “You guys are the four worst communicators ever!” Poignant, sure, but watching four people avoid their issues with one another doesn’t make for great film viewing. (It does make you want to smack them.) More concert footage and less avoidance of the issues would have been nice.
