When the clock strikes midnight in France, the Beaujolais Nouveau starts flowing.

Don’t speak French? The headline means, “The Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived!” Still confused? Beaujolais Nouveau is a wine that comes from the Beaujolais region in southern Burgundy—in France, of course. And, although it’s not the most sophisticated of wines, it has managed to create quite a stir around the world. On the third Thursday of November at midnight, the wine, which is made of grapes that were on the vine only three months earlier, is distributed, celebrated and, of course, consumed. Those of us in America may have to wait a couple of days to taste the wine, but the Alliance Française de Sacramento feels that it’s better late than never. That’s why the group is hosting the third annual Beaujolais Nouveau celebration this Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will feature wine tasting and live music. Tickets for the event are $18. The wine will be flowing at the Sierra 2 Center, located at 2791 24th Street. Call (916) 453-1723 for more information.
