Summer is nearly over, and it’s time to bid farewell to the outdoor theater season. Parting is such sweet sorrow that the Davis Shakespeare Ensemble has planned one last tryst with the Bard under the night sky. This intimate production of Romeo and Juliet can only be witnessed by 70 souls at a time, gathered in the round at the UC Davis Arboretum Gazebo. The play is no less professional for its rustic setting, though. Director Rob Salas is a veteran of Harvard University and the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Make reservations early and bring someone to snuggle with, just in case an autumn breeze blows through.

Showtimes for Romeo and Juliet are Thursdays through Sundays at 8 p.m., September 16-19 and 23-26. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children 12 and under. UC Davis Arboretum Gazebo, Garrod Drive, Davis. Visit http://arboretum.ucdavis.edu for more information. To make reservations, e-mail davis.shakespeare@gmail.com.
