It’s rerun time

Theater audiences this week will be forgiven if they feel like they’re experiencing déjà vu, with longtime favorites Aviva Jane Carlin and Jack Gallagher reprising popular solo shows at the Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) and B Street Theatre respectively.

In addition, the Broadway Series has brought back the touring production of Les Misérables, which previously played the Sacramento Community Center Theatre in 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1999. That amounts to something like 75,000 tickets sold during previous one-week engagements.

Les Misérables is here for a longer stay this time, with 16 performances between April 23 and May 4. The show is an optional buy for Broadway Series subscribers. Many will be seeing the show for the second, third or fourth time. The show’s at 1301 L Street, and the cost is $15-$65. Call (916) 264-5181.

Looking for something you haven’t seen on the boards locally? The STC is opening The Seven Ages of Man, a three-actor compilation of comic and dramatic scenes from Shakespeare. It’s currently in previews, and it opens Saturday night and continues through May 18. The show is at STC, 1419 H Street, and the cost is $12-$36. Call (916) 443-6722.

The Foothill Theatre Company is also opening P.J. Barry’s Bad Axe, an ambitious frontier drama set during the Black Hawk Indian War of 1832. The show is at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad Street in Nevada City, and tickets are $10-$21 (there also are some $5 tickets). The show runs from April 24 through May 25. Call (530) 265-8587.
