Homegrown: For eating and display

Pining for berry season to begin? Satisfy your longings with kiwifruit, a.k.a. Chinese gooseberries, which are, in fact, berries. From now through May, California kiwis are plentiful and entirely edible. Yes, you can eat that fuzzy skin; it's where you'll find most of the fiber. Or, peel and slice kiwis for fruit salads and smoothies. They're another great source of vitamin C, in case you're tired of citrus. While most kiwis at the market are green, you can sometimes find golden varieties and smaller, smoother kiwi berries. The dried vines are also beautiful as décor.
