Harrie Alley, “Love Seat,” monotype.

Harrie Alley, “Love Seat,” monotype.

On a street full of comfy older homes, you’d never guess one was an art gallery. It’s the huge metal mobile, permanently staked in the front yard and jangling in the wind, that gives away the Artful I Studio at 212 Elefa Street in Roseville. There, just off Washington Street, the front section of the house has been morphed into a wonderful space to hang art. Hardwood floors and lots of natural (and not so natural) light illuminate exhibits like monotype prints by Harrie Alley. In Keys to My Heart, up until March 12, Alley reworks print plates, layers images and uses chine colle and collage to add texture. In “Ars longa,” a coin-like metal exuding Roman antiquity juxtaposes modern geometric shapes, all washed with a metallic finish. “The Santa Fe Thing” entices, daring viewers to decipher a message in cryptic images and symbols.
