Holiday squeeze

I’m dreaming of a squeeze-box Christmas.

I’m dreaming of a squeeze-box Christmas.

This Sunday, take a little time out from the hustle of busy downtown shopping and drop by the state Capitol to enjoy some holiday music by the talented musicians of the Golden State Accordion Club Band. While there, check out the Capitol’s beautifully trimmed tree, garlands, decorations and flower arrangements—a holiday tradition that began back in 1869. Come on, if carols by accordion can’t make you smile, then good luck to you Mr.—or Mrs.—Scrooge. Oh, did I mention that the all of the concerts are free?

The event is part of the State Capitol Holiday Music Concerts series, which features a concert by local performers—from choruses to string quartets—every day between noon and 1 p.m. through Saturday, December 23. The concerts take place in the Rotunda of the Capitol, located on 10th Street between L and N streets. For more information call (916) 324-0333, x256.
