Hallelujah City

Rated 4.0

This new musical by locals Lisa Lacy and Charles Cooper (creators of gospel shows like And the Dream Goes On and Evangelize!) is a parable along the lines of It’s a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Carol—though it’s not a holiday show. The story involves a writer who’s lost the desire to live after the death of his spouse. Celestial intervention, and a trip to Hallelujah City (which isn’t exactly heaven, and seems to have a hidden power struggle) bring home several of life’s lessons. Musically, this show is closer to the pop-music universe than the church. Lacy and Cooper are planning additional productions of other shows later this year at the Guild Theatre in Oak Park.
