Goods & services: The bucks stop here

I think we need a whiff of the great outdoors, whaddya say?

How about a ride on the American River Bike Trail? That’s super inexpensive; it’s free! Provided you’ve got a bike, that is. Take the twamp you didn’t need, and pack yourself a picnic for when you reach your destination.

Perhaps a hike is a little more your style. Jordan Summer’s newly released 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Sacramento should offer some insight. So should this issue’s outdoors section (see “Walk the cradle”). Even with gas prices as they are, you’ll be able to make it on one of these ventures. Don’t forget lots of water!

Or maybe you’d prefer sitting on your duff, America’s favorite pastime. Catch a River Cats game at Raley Field. Tickets range from $7-$20, depending on when you buy ’em and how close you want to get to the action. We recommend saving a handful of cash for an ice-cold drink and a Dinger dog or some peanuts (we’ve heard you can eat the shells!).
