Frosting on the ¡Búcho!
Local combo ¡Búcho! has returned to California from Madison, Wisconsin, where it opened for Maverick Records singer/songwriter Michelle Branch in October after winning a battle of the bands competition. Scuttlebutt has Maverick, home to local international success story the Deftones, looking seriously at adding ¡Búcho! to its roster, although the label recently got scaled back as part of an ongoing reorganization at AOL’s embattled Warner Music division. ¡Búcho! is, essentially, songwriter Gerald Pease, 39, backed by a quintet, all of whom are still in their late teens; the band imbues Pease’s songs with a smorgasbord of influences, from rock to funk, folk and Latin. Which you can hear 9 p.m. Friday, December 14, at Capitol Garage, 1427 L St. Admission to the all-ages show, a benefit for the Shriners Childrens Hospital, is $8. Also on the bill are Shakedown and #1 Seed.
