Just like the art of capoeira, which fuses elements of martial arts, dance and music, San Francisco-based SambaDá merges the Brazilian and African sounds of samba with funk, reggae and a bit of surf rock—transforming any venue into a Brazilian-inspired Carnaval. SambaDá actually originated in the late ’90s as a Brazilian dance group whose founder, Papiba Godinho, is a capoeira master. The eight-piece group is on a CD-release tour for its fourth album, Gente! It is the perfect show to start off the spring season, with songs full of energy, flavor and personality. Colorful, flowing clothing and sandals required. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.sambada.com.
