Reconstruction is as American as venti caramel Frappuccinos and Joan Rivers’ face. But while governments bicker over whether to remake the state constitution or rebuild K Street Mall, a league of extraordinary local designers and vendors will converge this weekend to reconstruct your wardrobe.
Four times per year, Bows and Arrows hosts Sellout Buyout on Second Saturday. It’s like a pot pie of fashion awesomeness; you can find a little bit of everything in one convenient place. And this Saturday, 20 vendors will sell reconstructed vintage styles, silk-screened clothing and handmade jewelry. Just when it couldn’t get any better, the Midtown vintage shop will serenade customers with French deejay music.
“The great thing about Sellout Buyout is it’s an event where artists get to make 100 percent of the profit,” says Trisha Rhomberg, Bows and Arrows’ co-owner and Pretty Trashy fashion label brainchild.
Sellout Buyout is also an opportunity to talk to the designers and artists about their inspiration and upcoming trends. This season, reconstructed strapless tube dresses are flying off the shop’s racks, Rhomberg says. So too are ’90s floral prints, mini skirts, tribal and ethnic prints and basically anything with bright colors.
Arrive early to find the best selection, which Rhomberg hopes will include some of Paul Imagine’s “No on Prop. 8” shirts. She’s not promising anything, just hoping.
