Sacramento may not be the most fashion-forward city in the world, but in the past few months it certainly has seen a boost in fashion-related activity. Perhaps the most successful endeavor was last month’s Sacramento Apparel Coalition (SAC) fashion show. The sold-out event proved that Sacramentans aren’t satisfied with the mass-produced threads found in area malls. Instead, locals are looking to designers and boutique owners for this season’s must-haves. Don’t fret if you were one of the many turned away at SAC’s door; this weekend is chock-full of stylish events that will help you update your wardrobe. Just remember: It doesn’t pay to be fashionably late to these events!

This Thursday, Bay Area-based clothing designer Lynn Mizono will show off her structural separates at a benefit trunk show at Five Figs Couture, located at 803 Second Street in Davis. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Yolo County’s Short Term Emergency Aid Committee. The trunk show happens from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. It’s free to attend, but bring money if you plan on purchasing any clothes. Call (530) 756-3500 for more information.

On Friday night, eight local designers—including Mikobella Designs, Panda Wars and Por Vida Clothing—will show their lines at Project Runway, the groups’ inaugural runway show. Deejays Wreck, Mosean and Rockbottom will provide the grooves. The doors open at 9:30 p.m., and the models hit the catwalk at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-$15. The event will be held at the Hard Rock Cafe, located at 545 Downtown Plaza. Call (916) 441-5591 for more information.

The UC Davis Runway Designers Club will host its annual student-run fashion show this Saturday. The club unveils its designs at noon and again at 2 p.m. at the Wyatt Pavilion Theatre at UC Davis. It’s free to attend, but donations are always welcome. Call (510) 295-3600 for more information.
