Eight Gigs: The Subdudes

Wed., Dec. 2, 7 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $35-$40

It's a pleasure to discover a band like the Subdudes. I was drawn immediately to their unique sound via a live 1995 Mountain Stage performance featuring one of their catchier tunes “(You'll Be) Satisfied.” The reward is a soulful blend of blues, gospel, folk and R&B from the native New Orleans quartet known for their passionate vocals and distinctive instrumentation. Since the beginning, the Subdudes' relaxed musical mix featured accordionist John Magnie, tambourine player Steve Amedee and singer-guitarist Tommy Malone. Rounding out the current outfit is Tim Cook on bass. The Subdudes' gumbo is best served live. 2708 J Street, www.subdudes.com.
