Eight gigs: The Ataris

Wed., Aug. 17, 8 p.m., Blue Lamp, $15

I admit it. I used to love the Ataris. Blue Skies, Broken Hearts…Next 12 Exits? Oh, yes. Blame middle-school angst. Anyway, the Ataris never stopped making music—they’re on tour right now supporting a new EP, October in This Railroad Earth. It sounds straight out of the ’90s because it was written in the ’90s. Most of the six songs actually pre-date the first Ataris album, and they’re more gritty and punk than you might expect. Even more punk: the Ataris recorded tracks live, in one take, straight to analog tape. And the whole production process took a whopping four days. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, http://theataris.bandcamp.com.
