Eight Gigs: Sir Richard Bishop

Mon. May 1, 7:30 p.m., Gold Lion Arts, $12

If one’s life has been devoted to one instrument, eventually the energy passed between it and player becomes a bond as intimate as any human relationship. The long-term affair of passion, patience and playfulness comes through in guitarist Sir Richard Bishop’s latest solo album Tangier Sessions, improvised one night in Morocco with a guitar of mysterious origin found in a small shop in Geneva. The outcome of that night was bright, evocative songs rich with the styles of Middle Eastern, Gypsy, American folk and Indian music. 2733 Riverside Boulevard, www.sirrichard
