Eight Gigs: Recorded Freedom

Sat., May 7, 2 p.m., Colonial Theatre, $12-$15

Taking a stand against racism certainly merits parting with your hard-earned cash. Plus, this Rock Against Racism event will feature tons of awesome local groups; fittingly, it’s a cross section of punk, alt-rock and hip-hop. Hip-hop duo Recorded Freedom is a local, conscious crew, and exactly the kind of act this event was designed for. The breezy, surreal beats bring to mind classic ’90s alt-rap, but these guys’ lyrics are synced right in with today’s current political climate and their own personal trials and tribulations. Their hard-hitting, straight-to-the-point flow ties the whole thing together. 3522 Stockton Boulevard, www.facebook.com/RecordedFreedom.
