Eight Gigs: Las Cafeteras

Sun., Feb. 1, 8 p.m., Sol Collective, $10

The people behind Sol Collective (and the Global Local music festival that happened in Sacramento at the end of last summer) continue to bring pretty cool world-music acts to town. Los Angeles' Las Cafeteras play a modern version of Son Jarocho—a guitar-driven Mexican folk genre—blended with hip-hop, soul and maybe a hint of indie-pop sensibility. Most songs are in Spanish and some are in English, but perhaps more importantly, the beats are infectious and universally danceable. The multiple rhythm guitarists in the group lay down an infectious groove reminiscent of world-music superstars the Gypsy Kings. World Hood opens. 2574 21st Street, www.facebook.com/lascafeteras.
