Eight Gigs: Honey C

Thu., Sept. 8, 7:30 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $17-$20

Toronto rapper Honey C is on tour fresh off the release of her new single “Coconuts.” Raised in French-speaking Quebec and of Cambodian descent, Honey C learned English as a child by watching 106 and Park and listening to Tupac lyrics. Tyga discovered the artist back when she was in high school, after she uploaded a “Rack City” freestyle on YouTube under her early moniker, Honey Cocaine. Check out the playful single “Can’t Sit With Us,” a sample of the iconic lunch-table diss from the movie Mean Girls, and I can all but guarantee you’ll be compelled to join her loyal cult fans Thursday. 2703 J Street, https://twitter.com/queenhoneyc.
