Eight Gigs: !!! (Chk Chk Chk)

Tues., March 24, 8 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $15

Indie punk-funksters Chk Chk Chk (a.k.a. !!!) near their 20th year still in full possession of their signature dance-floor vibrancy and heady grooves. The Sacramento sextet emerged in the mid-'90s like the love child of Slint, Steely Dan and Sly & the Family Stone. Its crisp, jazzy, sometimes steely minimalism often gives way to driving, Gödel-esque psychedelica threading the needle between billowy mind drift and mantra-like insistence. On its latest, 2013's Thr!!!er, Spoon drummer and producer Jim Eno translates his own band's rubbery pulse into spooky slink, as Chk Chk Chk critiques the limits of shame: “I'd rather worry about my existential crisis on a beach where the sun sets nicest.” 2708 J Street, www.chkchkchk.net.
