E-ffective waste recycling

E-waste has become one of the fastest-growing segments of waste stream in the United States and the world. Electronic devices with high levels of hazardous materials threaten the health of land, lakes, rivers, oceans, animal life and people. Florin High School will host a free e-waste recycling event this Sunday, sponsored by Electronic Waste Management. The company collects electronic items—televisions, monitors, fax machines, cell phones, audio-visual equipment, toner cartridges, telephones, stereo equipment, video-game systems, steel scrap—and recycles with a state-approved recycler. Check www.noewaste.com for a list of items accepted. Drop off your items at the north parking lot of Florin High School, 7956 Cottonwood Lane, (916) 689-8600; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
