Chalk It Up

The art at Chalk It Up might just be the very definition of cool. It's on pavement (a somewhat rebellious medium) in one of the hippest parks in town (Fremont Park) and it shows off some of the most talented artists in town. Then there's the fact that the chalk itself somehow kindles childhood wonder and gets kids—and adults—to think about art. To top it off, while looking at the illustrations, there's also live music via Sacramento bands like the Kelps, Bellygunner, and James Cavern & the Council. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from Saturday, August 30, through Monday, September 1; at Fremont Park, 1515 Q Street; (916) 213-5059; www.chalkitup.org.
