Animals get abandoned

Unlike Noah, the folks on the VARK ark welcome more than just two of every animal aboard.

It’s sad to say, but it happens all the time. The novelty of owning a family pet can wear off. The once-loved family member is often abandoned at a rescue center or, worse yet, left to fend for itself on the streets. The animals that do make it to rescue centers have no guarantee of being adopted, and many are euthanized. This Saturday, do your part to help prevent the euthanasia of unwanted pets by attending a fund-raiser for Veterinary After Rescue Kare (VARK), a local group dedicated to helping abandoned animals. From noon to 4 p.m., guests will be treated to live music by Aurora and the Kimberly Trip, a petting zoo, an adoption center, various animal-rescue organizations’ booths, a silent auction and more. Admission is free. Animal lovers should head to Dr. Jyl’s Mobile Vet Connection at 7434 Cardwell Avenue in Orangevale. Call (916) 989-0738 for more information or to make a donation.
