The Sacramento Ballet’s final performance of the season at the Community Center Theater, Icons and Innovators, pairs popular choreography with music by well-known composers. The show takes place in three sections. Part one features The Four Temperaments, which was choreographed by George Balanchine for the New York City Ballet. In it, classical dance choreography will be paired with the music of German composer Paul Hindemith. Next in the program, Bolero, features choreography by Ron Cunningham, the Sacramento Ballet’s artistic director. The Spanish-themed dance will be augmented by Maurice Ravel’s composition, which was originally commissioned for the Paris Opera. Icons and Innovators closes with Celts, choreographed by Lila York for the Sacramento Ballet. Celts is paired with a score of traditional and contemporary Irish folk music. If you’ve never seen the Sacramento Ballet before, this is a great starting point, as you’re certain to experience an audiovisual smorgasbord. Icons and Innovators happens March 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and March 27 at 2 p.m. at the Community Center Theater, 1301 L Street. Tickets cost $15-$63 and are available by calling (916) 808-5181 or visiting www.tickets.com. For more information, visit www.sacballet.org.
