The commute

Washoe County’s Regional Transportation Commission has a commuter bus that runs between Carson City and Reno. At one time there were nine runs a day. That service has seen recession cuts, and now there are four runs, two in the morning and two in the afternoon.

That has fostered grumbling among passengers, with some runs full to overflowing. It is not unusual for some passengers to have to stand the entire way, and some passengers have asked drivers who they should call at RTC to complain.

The answer is Dave Jickling, though it’s uncertain how much he or anyone can do. The cuts in the intercity route were made in January 2009, two years into the recession, and Nevada has shown very little sign of being able to emerge from hard times any time soon.
