Tattoo you

Tattoos have been a part of human history for thousands of years. Some of the earliest evidence of tattooing was found on the body of Ötzi, the 5,300-year-old man whose frozen mummy was discovered on the Austro-Italian border of the Ötzal Alps in 1991. This weekend, however, you’ll see modern examples of body art when the second annual Lady Luck Tattoo Arts Expo comes to downtown Reno. MOM Productions of Pennsylvania and Aces Tattoo in Reno present this three-day event which showcases tattoo art and artists from around the country. Tattoo artist/cartoonist Mark Bode, the son of cartoonist Vaughn Bode, will present an adult-oriented slideshow called Mark & Vaughn Bode’s Cartoon Concert at 10:30 p.m. March 13. The R.I.P. book signing and exhibit features artwork (one of the pieces of which is pictured above) by dozens of tattoo artists dealing with interpretations of death. The event begins 9 p.m. March 12. There also will be tattoo contests, art exhibits, a machine building seminar for professional tattoo artists and a seminar on tattoo history by C.W. Eldridge. The convention opens 3 p.m. March 12 and noon March 13-14 at Circus Circus, 500 N. Sierra St. A three-day pass is $25 if you pre-register. Call 1-866-482-8866 or visit http://tattoopgh.com.
