Senseless killing

Jamming with Lou Reed is something akin to committing musical necrophilia. Reed, every bit alive as Nat King Cole was when he duet-ed “Unforgettable” with his daughter, Natalie, still has hipster cachet jetting from the seams, which, incidentally have been showing for something like 30 years now. There’s no faulting Brandon and co. for recording the track “Tranquilize” with the legend, but sticking the thing on the new “rarities album” Sawdust with the likes of felonious tunes like “Where the White Boys Dance” smells like Christmas in a really cynical way. Hopefully, Island invests some of that cash in some of the bands that opened for The K’s on the Sam’s Town tour, like The Red Romance.
